The Orchestrator

The book uses AI, and I want to be explicit about what that means here. Each chapter carries its own badge under the Human Quotient scale — a creator’s attestation about how a piece of work was made, not an AI detector or a quality score. Chapters marked HQ 8 — Authored contain human-written prose, while AI may have been used for light polish. Chapters where AI wrote portions of the prose, and I assembled and reviewed the whole, are marked HQ 6 — Assembled. The badge on each chapter says which is which.

That is the statement I am making about this book. The argument, structure, examples, and final decisions are mine on every chapter. On the Authored chapters the prose is mine as well; I used AI tools as research assistants, sounding boards, and editorial instruments — to help locate and organize sources, identify gaps, test whether a passage was clear, and occasionally suggest a grammatical tightening or a better word. On the Assembled chapters, AI drafted portions of the prose; I reviewed every passage, rewrote where it fell short, and take responsibility for the whole. The tools participated in the process. They did not author the book.

The distinction matters because this book is about responsibility for systems that produce work. I am not pretending AI was absent from the making of these pages, and I am not treating its presence as proof that the pages belong to the machine. My attestation is that the human act of creating this book — its judgment, voice, structure, and substance — remained mine.
