The Orchestrator

Organizations are already moving toward a world in which experienced engineers and architects become orchestrators, and that transition is both real and necessary. It cannot be the whole plan.

Remove junior programming work without creating resident-engineer programs and you have removed the people who would have become your senior engineers and orchestrators. Let people direct systems without teaching them the technology and you have created operators who cannot tell when the system is wrong. Depend on AI without a fallback plan and you have built an organization that cannot operate through an outage.

Today’s orchestrators are experienced technical people learning to direct agentic systems, and the next generation will need a deliberate path to become those people. Build that path before the old one disappears.
